Root canal treatment
When the nerve inside a tooth becomes inflamed or infected, a root canal removes it, cleans and seals the space, and lets you keep the tooth.
Signs you may need one
A lingering toothache, pain on biting, sensitivity to hot or cold that does not fade, a darkened tooth, or a pimple on the gum near the tooth.
What to expect
The tooth is fully numbed. The infected tissue is removed, the canals are cleaned and sealed, and the tooth is restored, often with a crown because a treated tooth is more brittle.
